Almost every day, you can find me on location. I believe to be able to paint a subject, an artist has to know it. For a landscape artist, direct observation on location is the primary way to become knowledgeable; to see the light and how it falls upon...or illuminates... a building or ground plane. So, grab a cup of coffee, settle back and travel with me through my plein air collection. Several paintings are still available for purchase. Enjoy!

My studio paintings are produced as a direct result of the time I spend on location. To create larger work, I use my sketches, plein air paintings, and photographs as source material. Many of these paintings are a combination of several plein air outings...others are larger versions of smaller plein air studies. Drawing on memory of my outdoor experiences, I'm able to re-create the "moment". Most are available for purchase.

My speciality is capturing the "personality" of a home - In many cases, the house no longer exists and all I have to use for source might be an old black and white snapshot, so it's important to conduct an extensive interview; I want to paint it just as the client remembers it. Let me create a special "portrait" of your home, business or favorite place; call or email me anytime.

These are "snapshots" of drawings, mini-paintings, value studies and notes from my sketchbooks. I use my sketchbook to compose, select the subject matter and work out color, value, and format issues prior to starting a painting...whether it be on location or in the studio. Several images were painted while on vacation...simply for the joy of it.
